help2kids Malawi, Health Clinic: HIV/AIDS Prevention and Awareness Activities

Country: Malawi

Project cost: $400

Needs

For USD 400 you can sponsor important HIV/AIDS prevention and awareness efforts in rural Malawi.

About project

Over 10% of adults in Malawi are HIV-positive, and over 800 patients living with HIV receive life-saving antiretroviral medication at the Lifuwu Health Centre each month. HIV/AIDS is one of the greatest health threats to youth, and prevention efforts are needed to correct dangerous misconceptions about the virus and protect the next generation. In addition, increased care and sensitization is also needed for patients receiving antiretroviral medication, as over 50 people default from this regime each month, leading to sickness or death. help2kids leads the fight against HIV/AIDS in Lifuwu by supporting a youth drama group which sensitizes community members about prevention, transmission and healthy living through skits, games, and songs. We also work with a positive-living group to encourage those receiving antiretroviral medication to adhere to the regime.

Your Impact

USD 400 allows us to educate over 250 people about HIV/AIDS through two drama group performances, and would educate over one hundred people living with HIV/AIDS about the importance of adhering to antiretroviral medication.
